CALL FOR PAPERS Monograph on Teaching Innovation in Sociology

2024-05-20

The Spanish Journal of Sociology of Education (RASE) announces the call for a special monograph dedicated to Teaching Innovation in Sociology. This monograph aims to explore new curricula, didactic strategies, methodologies, and approaches that contribute to the advancement and improvement of teaching in the field of sociology.

In addition to the degrees in Sociology or the double degrees with Political Science and other strongly related disciplines, Sociology, in general or its specializations (education, consumption, business, etc.), is a common basic or field subject in many degrees in the Social and Human Sciences Degrees. Teaching sociology in these different contexts constantly challenges educators to adapt to this diversity of groups, students, training itineraries, etc.

Likewise, as a science focused on social reality, we must face a reality with constant manifestations of change. Society, technology, and cultural dynamics evolve, and traditional teaching methods may not be sufficient to prepare students for that dynamic reality.

Reflection and innovation are presented as effective solutions to address these challenges. It is not just about adopting new technologies or tools, but about completely rethinking what we teach and how we teach, and how students learn. Through reflection and debate on new proposals we aim not only to contribute to improving the quality of sociology teaching, but also to enhance creativity, flexibility, and passion for teaching for the benefit of our students and society.

The Group of Sociology Teaching Innovation (GIDSOC) of the Universidad Rey Juan Carlos (URJC) has organized the I Forum of Teaching Innovation in Sociology, in October, 2024, at the Fuenlabrada Campus (Community of Madrid). The format of the Forum is hybrid and will combine in-person and remote participation in the best possible way. We encourage you to present your papers at the Forum and to reflect collectively about how to improve the teaching of sociology in higher education. Participation in these sessions does not guarantee acceptance of the proposal in the monograph. However, it is a perfect forum to submit our work to constructive criticism and thus improve the subsequent proposal to RASE.
