Phonetic analysis of spontaneous speech confronts us with numerous questions about the nature of speech sounds as well as their phonological interpretation. This article reviews some of these questions as well as their theoretical and practical implications, and proposes an alternative approach based on the theory of Communicative Competence and the principles of Complex Thought.Downloads
