Abstract

In this paper the influence of extra-scientific culture in the creation of medical and biological terminology is studied. The cultural weight of the terms preembrión , estrés and mamífero is examined and the ideological implications that certain authors attribute to them discussed. The metaphors of politics, warfare, economics, animals, plants, geography, hydraulics, architecture and the home used in medical discourse as well as the cultural values that accompany them are also described.
