Abstract

This paper aims at discussing the role of phonetic knowledge in the field of forensic phonetics. It also presents some of the tasks performed by forensic experts in the analysis of the speech signal. This is illustrated with data obtained within the VILE-I project (An acoustic study of inter and intraspeaker variation in Spanish, BFF2001-2551), in which some of the acoustic parameters that contribute to the speaker’s individuality were studied.
