The main aim of our research is to analyze the different melodic patterns that contribute to defining irony as a pragmatic phenomenon within the complex function of intonation in the field of colloquial conversation. This work will be developed through a phonetic-phonological study based on the experimental procedure of the Melodic Analysis of Speech (MAS) model clearly displayed in Cantero (2002). Finally, we will study the different curved standards as a result of the frequency data obtained from 160 examples of irony found in TV shows.
Keywords: irony; pragmatics; intonation; standardization; pattern.
