Old surnames found by toponymy in the Asturias dominion

Abstract

This paper offers an example of the medieval information of “Ovetum” (Oviedo, Uviéu) and its linguistic interest. Besides, we study some specific toponyms whose interpretation needs medieval documentation and comparison with other romance domains because they have not common noun support in the modern language.

Keywords: Asturian toponymy; opaque place-names.
