Good practices in gender equality
Good practices in gender equality.
Quaderns de Filologia: Estudis Lingüístics/Estudis Literaris is concerned with achieving gender equality in all its publishing practices. Therefore, its activity in scientific dissemination is fully aligned with Goal 5 of the SDGs established by the UN: Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls. Likewise, within its scope, it tries to be in line with the lines of action of the various Equality Plans of the University of Valencia (IV Equality Plan currently in force).
The good practices in gender equality of Quaderns de Filologia: Estudis Lingüístics/Estudis Literaris have repercussions in three main areas:
- Equality in the publishing process.
- Equality in research.
- Equality in communication.
Equality in the publishing process
Quaderns de Filologia: Estudis Lingüístics / Estudis Literaris maintains an equal representation of women and men in its editorial bodies. At present, the Editorial Team is made up of two women (director and secretary) and one man (secretary). The Editorial Board is made up of 13 women and 11 men and 6 women and 6 men as external members.
The journal also takes gender parity into account in the selection of the persons who will evaluate the articles. At least 40% of the total number of reviewers in each volume will be women.
This measure fulfils SDG target 5.5: "Ensure women’s full and effective participation and equal opportunities for leadership at all levels of decision-making in political, economic and public life".
Equality in research
The journal Quaderns de Filologia: Estudis Lingüístics/Estudis Literaris highly recommends that authors incorporate the sex/gender variable as far as their research allows and that the conclusions consider the results obtained by applying this variable.
Equality in communication
Quaderns de Filologia: Estudis Lingüístics/Estudis Literaris promotes non-discriminatory language referring to sex or gender in all its communications: published articles, internal communications between authors and editors, public texts on its website... This helps to fulfil SDG target 5.1., “End all forms of discrimination against all women and girls everywhere”, specifically in aspects related to discrimination and verbal violence.
To this end, it follows the “Guidelines for gender-inclusive language in English” of the United Nations and the recommendations in this respect of the University of Valencia's Equality Plans. The Editorial Team suggests that all authors and editors consult these guidelines and follow them in their work and other communications in the framework of the journal.
