Abstract

The intellectual and moral contribution of Javier de Lucas on the problem of immigration reveals the latent contradiction between universal moral rights and national borders and seems to question the principle of non-intervention upheld by the United Nations Organization. Only by attributing a moral value to the border or by questioning that principle could an adequate response to that moral challenge be found. What cannot be accepted is the coining of a concept of immigrant as a second-class human being, with limited rights but equal duties. However, the questions that all of this asks us are not capable of avoiding the affirmation that the idea of distributive justice presupposes a finite group of individuals among whom to distribute, and that of self-determination, a right of the group to organize that distribution by itself. same. They are decisive unknowns.
