Advances and setbacks in the fight against impunity in Europe: from the Tibet cases to the war crimes of Syria and Ukraine

Abstract

In the last decade from different European courts, numerous international crimes committed in African conflicts or in Syria have been prosecuted through universal jurisdiction. These legislative and judicial progress allow accountability proceedings against Russian officials for the aggression war committed against Ukraine. But, while in the European context the fight against impunity advances, in Spain it has not yet been possible to recover universal justice, which continues to await the necessary and long-awaited legislative reform.
