Abstract

Il, the first autobiography by a trans man, Daniel Van Oosterwyck, declared a girl at birth, shows just how long and trying the process of changing gender and sex was in the 1970s. The aim of this autobiography is to provide an insight into the feelings of someone who experiences himself as profoundly masculine. Fifty years on, Paul B. Preciado’s chronicles in Un appartement sur Uranus denounce the confinement of sex and gender identity and the obligation to think of the world in binary terms. His transition to masculinity goes beyond desire to be a man: it’s a revolutionary political act aimed at breaking down categories and creating a new epistemology that gives a proper place to the third, to the margin, to gender dissidence.

Author Biography

Martine Renouprez, Universidad de Cádiz

Professeure titulaire à l’Université de Cadix (Espagne) où elle enseigne la littérature belge de langue française, elle a proposé une approche sociologique de cette littérature à travers l’étude de ses instances de légitimation ( Introducción a la literatura belga. Una aproximación sociológica , 2006). Spécialiste de l’œuvre poétique et essayistique de Claire Lejeune, écrivaine montoise, elle a contribué à la connaissance de son œuvre à travers plusieurs livres, entre autres, Claire Lejeune. La poésie est en avant , 2006 ; (avec Danielle Bajomée) Claire Lejeune. Une voix pourpre , 2012 ; (avec Anne André et Danielle Bajomée), Claire Lejeune. Pour trouver la clé, il fallut perdre la mémoire des serrures , 2018 ; mais aussi une exposition (2012-2013) et la remise du Fonds Claire Lejeune à la Maison Losseau (septembre 2015), en collaboration avec Danielle Bajomée. Elle a dirigé l’édition de quelques numéros des Cahiers internationaux de symbolisme , entre autres : L’inattendue. Genèse de la création dans les essais de Claire Lejeune (2006), Pour une origyne à venir. Engagements auprès de Claire Lejeune (2008). Parmi ses horizons de recherche, elle s’est intéressée tout particulièrement aux écritures de femmes, à l’imaginaire du Japon chez les voyageurs européens et, actuellement, aux questions transgenres. Elle a entrepris de nombreux échanges et projets de recherche avec des partenaires africains, en particulier avec les universités de Côte d’Ivoire.
