Creative Translation

Abstract

We present here a new issue of Quaderns de Filologia: Estudis Literaris that gathers the analyses and reflections, from theory to practice, on Creative Translation. In its inception, we proposed the authors to understand "creative" as applied to all translation activities based on the creative use of language, exploiting its expressive and aesthetic qualities. Needless to say, these also underscore the formal quality of the texts and their nature as texts open to interpretation that are characterised by connotation, polysemy and ambiguity. In this sense, this volume transcends the traditional classification of "literary translation" in order to explore the creative elements that are present in a variety of text types. The reading of this volume will allow readers to observe the points of convergence in such diverse (translated) texts as advertising (Valdés), videogames (García, Bernal), films (Chaume), TV series (Bosseaux), cartoons (Aguirre, Simón), lyrics (Bracho & Turney), opera (Desblache), comics (Calvo), drama (Oliva, Robles, Lawick) or novels (Balzer), and even scientific texts (Lepinette & Pinilla). Some of these authors are professional translators. This was one of the objectives we pursued in this volume: authors as "creators" of texts themselves. We have invited different translators: literaty and audiovisual, well-known and novel, etc. to "hace their say" and to communicate to readers interested in this thriving topic.
