Abstract

Cristóbal Escobar, an Andalusian humanist who spent the main part of his life in Sicily, published a volume that contains some opuscula dedicated to the local history of Syracuse. One of them, the De Syracusanorum stratagemmatis, is a stratagems' summary where Syracuse is the theatre of many Greek and Roman historical figures' wit. Besides, it is included the study and the translation of the dedicatory epistle about this volume, a key element to understand the meaning of Escobar's work.

Juan Francisco Reyes Montero, Universidad de Cádiz, España

Juan Francisco Reyes Montero, nacido en Medina Sidonia (Cádiz), es graduado en Filología Clásica por la Universidad de Cádiz, donde obtuvo el Premio Extraordinario Fin de Grado 2013-2014 en Filología Clásica. Cuenta, asimismo, con un  Máster en Enseñanza del Español como Lengua Extranjera de la Universidad Internacional Menéndez Pelayo (Santander) y el Máster en Profesorado Educación Secundaria Obligatoria y Bachillerato, Formación Profesional y Enseñanza de Idiomas en la Universidad de Cádiz. En este momento está realizando un doctorado en la Universidad de Cádiz mediante una beca predoctoral de investigación FPI. El título de la tesis es  Nebrija en Italia: el comentario a sus  Introductiones Latinae  realizado por Cristóbal Escobar. Estudio, edición crítica, traducción, notas e índices. Sus directores son José María Maestre Maestre (UCA) y Maurizio Campanelli (Università di Roma, La Sapienza).
