A Bibliometric Study of Music Education Articles Included in DIALNET 2003-2013

Abstract

Music research in conservatories, music schools, and universities is supported by the presence of resulting publications in scientific journals. The dissemination of data dispersion, the difficultly of access to appropriate journals, and the relative anonymity of those journals hinder further dissemination of this work. This study undertakes a bibliometric analysis of scientific production in music education through the 592 articles published between 2003 and 2013 in journals cataloged in DIALNET (database of the University of La Rioja), from their subject areas and levels and types of research, periodicity, authorship, language, impact index and other indicators of quality and visibility. The results show a significant presence in music education journals and a wide dispersion in related educational journals. The number of published articles, their presence in generalist and specialist journals, the most important journals, the number of authors of articles, the impact and frequency of the journals, the topics of the articles and their links with the formation authors, the dissemination of results, and access to journals are all analyzed and measured. Measures are proposed to correct the current situation in the area of knowledge.
