About the Journal

Journal History

Celestinesca was founded in 1977 by Joseph T. Snow, who took it with him to a couple of different universities and cities in the United States: Athens (Georgia) and Michigan State University.

In 2003, with the issue of number 27, the journal started a new journey in Spain, at the University of Valencia, under the direction of José Luis Canet. Since then, every December the journal uninterruptedly publishes scientific articles, reviews and notes on Celestina, and continues the Bibliographic Document started by Snow from the first issue, as well.

In 2021, in order to adapt to the standards required by the most prestigious academic journal indexes, Celestinesca makes the leap to the OJS platform and renews its editorial board and its scientific committee. It also incorporates, for the first time, a secretary to be in charge of all technical issues related to OJS and the process of receipt, review and publication of works. With these changes, Celestinesca is better equipped so that the impact indices can more accurately reflect the importance of this field of research, which is Celestina and celestinesque literature.

Focus and Scope

Celestinesca is published annually, in the month of December. The journal is directed to all those interested in specific celestinesque subjects. It selects original research articles related to Celestina's text (or similar works), its interpretation, historical context, imitations, continuations, translations, theater adaptations, etc. They can adopt different points of view: critical, literary, stylistic and linguistic, etc. Books reviews, studies or theater performances related to the goals of the journal will be accepted, as well.

Being an international journal, Celestinesca accepts contributions in any of the following languages: Spanish, Catalan, English, French, Galician, Italian and Portuguese, although the most represented languages are Spanish and English. It is not only addressed to researchers who belong to the academic or university world; it also welcomes research of general interest related to the celestinesque tradition coming from independent researchers, teachers, etc., on the condition that they pass the peer review process.

Peer Review Process

All works received will be reviewed and approved by the Editorial Board, which will also be in charge of communicating their acceptance or non-acceptance to the authors. This applies both to articles, subject to peer review and to reviews and other texts that only need the approval of the Editorial Board. The Editorial Board reserves the right to reject a work when its members think it does not conform to the formal norms or content or the publication ethics of the journal.

Articles approved by the Editorial Board will be subjected to a double-blind peer reviewing process by at least two reviewers. These will be researchers with recognized prestige in the field of celestinesque studies. They may or may not be members of the Scientific Committee, depending on the subject of the work. We will always try to have the advice of specialists in the specific subject of the articles received to ensure the best possible evaluation. In no case the acceptance or non-acceptance of an article will be decided without having completed this process.

To appeal an editorial decision by Celestinesca or to register a complaint, the author, editor, or reader will contact the journal directly and inform in writing about his reasons and arguments, and provide the corresponding evidences (if needed). Chosen members of the Editorial Team that have not been involved in the decision that is being questioned and whose interests do not collide directly with the topic that is being discussed will decide about the case.

Celestinesca is ruled by the ethical bases of the Code of Conduct and Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). A selection of the most important principles applied in Celestinesca can be read in our Publication Ethics and Review Ethics.

Anti-plagiarism Policy

In order to detect possible plagiarisms, the works received might be analyzed with the URKUND program, used by the University of Valencia; or, failing that, through the PLAG.ES program.

The content of the works falls within the responsibility of the authors. If, despite peer review and plagiarism detection processes, an article of doubtful authenticity or credibility is published, neither the Universitat de València nor Celestinesca will be responsible for its content.

Article Processing Charges (APC) Policy

Celestinesca does not charge authors for submitting, processing, reviewing or publishing their articles.

Digital Preservation Policy

Celestinesca is compatible with the LOCKSS (Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe) system, which guarantees the journal a permanent and secure archive. LOCKSS is an open source program developed by the Stanford University Library that enables libraries to curate selected web journals by regularly searching registered journals to collect newly published content and archive it. Each file is continually validated against records from other libraries, so any damaged or lost content can be restored using those records or the journal itself.

See the LOCKSS Release Manifest website.

Persistent Identifier Policy

Texts published by Celestinesca have a DOI (Digital Object Identifier) that guarantees permanent access to the articles, thanks to the registration, tracking and constant monitoring of metadata. Each DOI identifier is generated by Crossref through the OJS (Open Journal Systems) manager. To ensure its functionality, the DOI is always displayed as a complete URL link, both in the presentation of articles and issues of the journal, as well as in PDF files.

Sponsoring

Celestinesca is published with the intellectual support of Parnaseo (Servidor web de Literatura Española). The journal accepts no advertising and is published on a non-profit basis.
