Abstract

The principal aim of my research is to analyze the obscene gesture known as «dar las higas» that appears in two different passages of Celestina. One of its peculiarities is that it has only one literary antecedent in Castile, while we can find many such antecedents in Italian documents and texts written before the 16th century. We present here a study of its possible origins as well as a list of all the passages of Italian works where this gesture appears.
