Abstract
Gibraltar was a remarkable outlook to contemplate the Spanish Civil war given its status as British colony. However, those perceptions have been scarcely studied despite the existence of testimonies and memories written by those who arrived to the Rock in those dramatic circumstances. Frequently, it has been emphasized the solidarity and support given to the Spanish government by the democratic countries and, in the case of Gibraltar, that kind of actions were carried out by the trade unions. That is undeniable, nevertheless it was also real that other sectors showed a generous backing of the Francoist cause. This article is based on literary sources and archive documents.
