Abstract

Ascent to Glory, written by the historian and sociologist Álvaro Santana Acuña, has been applauded by critics and readers as an essential book to understand the global creation and consagration of one of the most important novels of the last  century, Cien años de soledad, by Gabriel García Márquez. Ascent to Glory has also been praised for offering new ideas and innovative approaches to topics such as collective creation, the myth of the solitarian and brilliant writter, the process of learning creative skills and hidden humour in classics. Santana Acuña talks about all of these topics and others to  Kristine Vanden Berghe, teacher at the Romantic Literature and Language Department in Lieja's University, and author of different articles about García Márquez's works and the Latinoamerican Boom.
