Abstract

The objective of this paper is to show the panorama of the French-Spanish bilingual lexicography until the present.

In the first place, we will examine its evolution from a quantitative point of view, by establishing a parallelism with multilingual lexicography, from the 16th until the 20th Century.

We will also do a comparison between characteristic elements of the bilingual works (format, means, languages, microstructure, etc.) by analysing the last editions of the same dictionary on paper and the versions on other means (electronic, online); that will allow us to prove which has been the contribution of the new technologies in updating and improving the quality of the French-Spanish lexicography.

Thanks to the descriptive analysis of the process followed by the lexicographers that respond to the needs ant wants of users, we will raise the balance of the present trends of this lexicography and maybe of its possible challenges in the future.
