Abstract

The newness of Giacomo Leopardi’s Operette morali is evident both in the content conveyed by the book – new, contemporary, and in constant dialogue with every era – and in the way modern readers can dive into the text. This contribution aims to explore the second perspective, proposing the Operette morali as a case study for the digital treatment of Leopardi’s writings within the Biblioteca Digitale Leopardiana. In the first part, the project’s premises will be briefly presented, illustrating its current state and evolutionary process. In the second part, the discussion will focus on the choices evaluated for the textual encoding of the Dialogo di Torquato Tasso e del suo Genio familiare, with the aim of demonstrating how metadata can facilitate different forms of fruition of Leopardi’s work within the digital platform (description of the autograph, digitization, access to texts).
