Women’s challenges and gender inequality implications in the UK Home Office’s streamlined asylum process

Resumen
Este artículo conceptual examina los retos a los que se enfrentan las mujeres que solicitan asilo en el Reino Unido, centrándose en las repercusiones que se desprenden del proceso de asilo simplificado del Ministerio del Interior. A pesar de que las directrices oficiales mencionan las cuestiones de género, el sistema se muestra hostil e inadecuado a la hora de abordar los singulares obstáculos a los que se enfrentan las mujeres. A través de un marco teórico poshumano y centrado en las prácticas, el artículo examina las recientes inquietudes en materia de género que suscita que el Ministerio del Interior británico recurra, para determinadas nacionalidades, a cuestionarios, traducción automática y asistencia lingüística informal, en lugar de entrevistas de asilo interpretadas. La contribución también pone de relieve las implicaciones de la tecnologización y la burocratización del acceso lingüístico. Se argumenta que el proceso simplificado de solicitud de asilo no solo refuerza la posición marginada de las mujeres, sino que también reduce recursos cruciales como la interpretación, lo que contribuye, a su vez, a las asimetrías de poder de género entre las personas solicitantes de asilo y el sistema judicial. El artículo sostiene que este enfoque transfiere a las mujeres la carga de la comprensión lingüística, lo que redunda en un clima de exclusión sociomaterial que cercena los derechos de las solicitantes de asilo a ser escuchadas adecuadamente.
