Abstract

The hypothesis that we will try to prove in this article is the following: throughout the different creative stages of Estellés, the Civil War and the post-war period are glimpsed, changing in form and tone as the poet’s experience takes distance and empowerment. He gradually takes prominence as the voice of the Valencians. In the following lines, we will draw the lines of these historical events in the poet’s verses and memoirs, with special reference to the idea ofwar. Despite the fact that this is a qualitative analysis of literary criticism in a given historical-political context, its methodological starting point is based on corpus linguistics techniques. We will trace aspects of the poet’s biography related to ways of representing war in the poet’s style, poems that pay tribute to specific activists and prototypical characters, all of them related to recent studies on the poetry of Vicent Andrés Estellés.
