In this article, we aim to delve into the representation of love and romantic relationships in two contemporary Spanish novels: Amour fou by Marta Sanz, and Feliz final by Isaac Rosa. We will engage these texts in a dialogue with two principal ideas from Eva Illouz’s essays Consuming the Romantic Utopia and The End of Love: the prevalent analogies drawn between consumer behaviors and romantic relationships, and the concepts of non-choice and negative relationships. Our main goal is to ascertain the extent to which politics influences our emotional lives and, most importantly, how these two works echo this influence.
