Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The petition has not been previously published, nor has it been submitted to another journal (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the editor).

  • The file sent is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, RTF, or WordPerfect format.

  • Web addresses have been added for references where possible.

  • The text has single spacing; the font size is 12 points; italics are used instead of underlining (except for URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures and tables are within the text where they belong and not at the end.

  • The text complies with the bibliographic and style requirements indicated in the Guidelines for authors, which can be found in About the journal.

  • If you are submitting to a section of the journal that is peer reviewed, you have to make sure that the instructions in Ensuring a blind review) have been followed.

Publication guidelines

1. General issues

The journal Educación artística: revista de investigación (EARI), edited by the Institute of Creativity and Educational Innovation from the University of Valencia, is an annual publication, founded in 2003 and aimed at specialists, researchers and professionals in the fields of arts education, arts and creativity. It publishes original scientific articles, carried out with methodological rigor and that contribute to the education of the visual arts, promoting educational reflection from the field of images, technologies, heritage and arts creation.

2. Submission of manuscripts

Works must be original, unpublished, and cannot be in the process of revision or in publication anywhere else. The articles should be written preferably in Spanish. They should be presented in .odt, .rtf, doc or .docx format, without data that identify the author. The submission will be made through the Open Journal System platform of EARI  (https://turia.uv.es/index.php/eari/index). Along with the document, a separate file should also be included showing the full name of the author or authors, (with a single surname or, if preferred, with two surnames joined by a hyphen), the ORCID code (if they are registered), a brief curriculum of each author and the address, email, organization and phone contact (of the responsible person, if there are several). The financing of the work, if any, should be included, indicating the complete reference. Original submissions will be open between January through March of each year.

3. Typology of publications and structure

The journal contributions can be:

  • Articles. Original analysis or studies research papers (maximum 6000 words, references included), as well as reports, studies and experiences (maximum 5000 words, references included) will be published. Submitted articles will be reviewed by blind peers.
  • Dossier. In some issues of the journal, the articles sent can be destined to the “Dossier” section, monographs previously organized. The articles included in the “Dossier” section will include original research papers (maximum 6000 words, references included), as well as reports, studies and experiences (maximum 5000 words, references included). Articles submitted to the "Dossier" section will be reviewed by blind peers.
  • Interviews with people who are especially relevant due to their connection to the issues addressed by the journal (maximum 6000 words of text). They will be subjected to a review process by the editorial committee and scientific advisor.
  • Reviews: descriptive and critical texts relating to a recent high-quality publication of a certain specialty,  the editing of the journal must not be older than two years. The length of the text must be 600 words. The image cover of the reviewed publication must be sent along with the review. It will be subjected to a review process by the editorial committee and scientific advisor.

The document’s header will be the title, and its English translation. Next, an abstract in Spanish will be included, with an extension between 220 and 230 words, with well-structured content, followed by 6 keywords, and English translations of both the abstract and the keywords. The text of the article should not include the name of the author or authors or any reference to them.

4. Images

Images (we advise 5 images maximum per article) will be sent in JPG format (300 dpi) in separate files from the text, referring in the text itself to the place where each image belongs. The author is responsible for the use made of the images and must indicate the author of the photograph (unless it is the same author of the article, in which case “photograph by author” must be specified) or the origin of it.

The editorial department reserves the right to modify the size of the images whenever necessary for its correct publication, respecting the original author’s format as much as possible.

5. Rules of style and references

Main text and final bibliography will be written in Times New Roman, font size12, it will be justified, with single spacing and without tabs or carriage returns.

Tables and graphs must appear inserted in the text in the order in which they appear. These must be legible and editable. They must be numbered consecutively and include a descriptive caption and the source of the content. They will only be used to clarify important points.

Bibliographic quotations and references should follow APA guidelines (v. 7). Will be procured to minimize the number and length of the footnotes, limiting their use to clarifications that are essential to the text.

6. Inclusive language

Texts will use an inclusive and non-sexist language. In general, it will be preferable to use collective, generic or split names and adjectives, trying in the latter case that the wording is not excessively complex or repetitive (User guide for an egalitarian language) [PDF ESPAÑOL]

7. Process of assessment

The texts received for publication by Educación artística: revista de investigación will be submitted to the following arbitration system:

  • First, the texts will be reviewed by the Editorial Committee to check if they meet the requirements indicated in the guidelines of the journal. Otherwise they will be rejected, notifying the authors of the reasons for such decision.
  • Secondly, EARI will request a report from two expert evaluators in the field, chosen for their prestige in the study area of the article, preferably external. According to the blind peer evaluation system, each article will be evaluated anonymously.

Article proposals will be evaluated under the following evaluation criteria:

  • Adequacy to the topics of the journal.
  • Originality and scientific contribution of the proposal.
  • Rationale and research and / or reflective relevance.
  • Formal adaptation of the structure, wording and style.

As a result of the evaluation, texts may be accepted, rejected or accepted with the condition that the author proceeds to make non-substantial changes in the text. The acceptance or rejection of articles will be communicated to the authors within a period of about four months.

8. Acceptance of articles

The opinions and statements published are the responsibility of the authors, and such opinions and statements do not necessarily represent the views or the editorial policy of the journal. Likewise, authors should respect the ethical principles of research and publication. If a work is accepted for publication, the copyright to print and/or reproduce the article by any means will be transferred to the Journal.

9. Publication fees

Educación artística: revista de investigación is an open access journal that does not charge authors for article processing (submission, review or editing) or publication.

The data collected from registered and non-registered users of this journal falls within the scope of the standard functioning of peer-reviewed journals. Those involved in editing this journal seek to be compliant with industry standards for data privacy, including the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) provision for “data subject rights” that include (a) breach notification; (b) right of access; (c) the right to be forgotten; (d) data portability; and (e) privacy by design.

The GDPR also allows for the recognition of “the public interest in the availability of the data,” which has a particular saliency for those involved in maintaining, with the greatest integrity  possible, the public record of scholarly publishing.
