Convergence ou divergence? Politiques de pluralisation et d'intégration religieuses dans les États occidentaux

Cet article tente d’analyser la relation entre les héritages religieux des pays d’accueil et la politique d’intégration, ou le multiculturalisme. Il vise à discuter des questions de continuité et de changement, de con- vergence et de divergence en matière d’immigration. Au niveau conceptuel, l’auteur examine la relation entre la religion et la démocratie, prenant l’exemple de 19 démocraties occidentales, soit un groupe de pays caractérisés par leur taille, des niveaux élevés de développement socio-économique, des systèmes démocratiques stables et un héritage religieux chrétien (latin). L’idée générale de cet article vise à démontrer que les héritages nationaux sont toujours une contrainte importante pour la convergence réelle des politiques de différents pays, et ce en dépit de la pluralisation de l’ordre international après 1989, malgré la mondialisation, l’intégration européenne ou même le 11 septembre.
