Abstract
Marie-Claire Blais is an important figure of contemporary Quebec literature. Her novels introduce us to oppressive worlds characterized by power relationships. In the society presented, women are consigned to a position of submission, to the margins, where they are almost invisible. Blais’s novels highlight the existence of female characters. This can be observed in her novels of the 60s, where some characters try to denounce and fight against women’s oppression through their writings. In her most recent novels, the author shows how the situation of women is still problematic nowadays and the freedom that has been obtained is still incomplete.
