This article discusses the contributions made by Marcelino Menéndez y Pelayo concerning Libro de buen amor which were included in Antología de poetas líricos castellanos (1892: LIII-CXIV). His analysis was fundamental for the recognition and inclusion of Juan Ruiz’s work in the Spanish literary canon. Menéndez y Pelayo made a case for requesting a complete edition of the text preserved in the known manuscripts in order to improve Sanchez’s version (1790), and noted a number of problems regarding the title, date of writing and sources, which later constituted important lines of research in the philological works that have been dedicated to Libro de buen amor.Downloads
