The literary canon in non-compulsory secondary education in Valencia

Abstract

In this paper we analyze, through several textbooks recently published in Valencia, what kind of literature is explained in post-compulsory secondary education (authors, works, periods and types of text) and, what is more relevant, how it is taught. Reflection on the vexed question of the canon and the methods and resources to provide a solid literary education leads us to recognize the need to teach the canon in these courses, understood as an open and flexible proposal, as well as to safeguard the pleasure of reading.
