Abstract

With a political condition swinging between independence and dependence on United States, Puerto Rico and its civilization are the cultural incarnation of the border. A place of debate fluid but not blurred, the Nuyorican borderland builds a singular Boricua identity, result of an oppositive binarism but involved in the nomadism taken over by the postmodern era. The paper explores the way in which Giannina Braschi’s literature problematizes the concept of borderland that, in the name of all Nuyoricans, becomes delimitation and separation (limes), but also porous habitable threshold (in limine), at the same time a place of fusion and geopolitical and civilizational friction. In the “trans” that characterizes Puerto Rican history as well as the Nuyorican population, the cultural identity is no longer located in a third space that blurs the dissonances between colonizer and colonized, but in a subversion made possible by hybridism…

Santa Vanessa Cavallari, Aix-Marseille Université (ED 354, CIELAM - groupe de recherche Transpositions) et Università di Pisa

Doctorante en littérature comparée à l’Université d’Aix-Marseille, en cotutelle avec l’Université de Pise. Issue d’une formation en traduction littéraire, elle prépare une thèse sur auto-traduction et translinguisme chez les écrivaines migrantes et dissidentes du XX e  siècle. Son corpus de recherche pentalingue explore les frontières dans le genre sexuel et textuel. Ses recherches tournent autour des théories féministes, du transhumanisme, l’intersectionnalité, la migration en Europe et dans l’aire caribéenne. Elle est co-responsable du collectif jeunes chercheurs Frontières, membre du comité de rédaction des revues doctorales « Les Chantiers de la Création » et « Traits d’Union ».
