In Spain, unlike other countries, the scientific literature about gender violence shows a wide gap in the university setting. In 2008 the first research on gender violence in the Spanish universities was finished, the results of this research show how similar to the universities of other countries and other areas of the society (labour market, family), gender violence also exist in our universities. At the same time, we state that Spanish universities have not established mechanisms to prevent and act against gender violence. On the contrary, we identify cases in our country where the universities are being accomplice and making possible as well the existence of abusive conducts. These situations are specially legitimated by people who are in power positions and they exert to people in more vulnerable and precarious situations, like temporary professors, students and assistant scholars.
