Vocational education students’ families’ engagement in their education

The engagement of students’ families in schools is nowadays a challenge. It is conceived as necessary toimprove student’s academic performance and as a sign of school quality. Recent research is focused on engagementconceptualizationand triestoidentifywhichfamiliesparticipatemorein schoolsand why.Somefindingsmaintainthatfamilyengagementwithschoolsdecreaseafterprimaryeducation.Thatledustothe
question:willbeengagedwithschoolsthefamiliesof the vocational education students? To try to answerthis question we have developed a qualitative study interviewing twenty families. Interviews content analysishas given rise to two set of findings: a) those about parent visits to schools and, b) another way of implicationwhichis developedathome.Weconcludethatvocationaleducationstudents’parentsareengagedin
their children education. They attend teachers’ demands and they enhance their children to learn more and to get a good qualification, appreciating schools and teachers roles.
