Manuel Vilas’ novels Ordesa and Alegría, in addition to similar thematic axes (mainly around parent-child relationships), share a particular emotionally intense and exalted narrative style. This aspect allows these texts to be related to a certain form of mysticism, characterized by its absence of religious affiliation, which Michel Hulin proposed referring to as “savage”. This article explores how in these novels by Manuel Vilas “wild mystique” is related to the use of intertexts and references of a musical nature, very present in both works, considering the different stylistic, semantic, and symbolic effects derived from this interference between music and mysticism.
