In the present paper we will search for the potential literary functions of the incongruities or scientific ‘blunders’, which we frequently come across when reading the so-called science-fiction works. For this, we will carry out a study of some of the science-fiction narratives, mainly related to physical phenomena, and for practical reasons we will group these in three basic topics of the contemporary physics. Also we will attempt to answer the question as to whether science-fiction shares certain literary characteristics/features with the classic fantastic literature, and we could deem science-fiction as a sort of modern fantastic literature.
