Paratexts as gatekeepers in online global jihadist translation – The narrative of a blog-based Arabic translation of Dabiq

Resum

La traducció ha tingut un paper fonamental en la difusió de la propaganda gihadista global a Internet, des de la declaració de la gihad global a finals de la dècada de 1990 fins a la manifestació recent del 2014 amb l'aparició de l'anomenat Estat Islàmic a l'Iraq i Síria (ISIS). Aquest article sosté que els marcs paratextuals tenen un paper significatiu en la mediació dels missatges amb càrrega ideològica dels gihadistes globals quan s’adrecen a comunitats diverses i els contextos canvien. L'article investiga la funció de control dels paratextos d’una traducció a l'àrab, publicada en un bloc, de la revista en llengua anglesa de l'ISIS Dabiq (AZIZ8178 2016a). Des del marc teòric de la narrativitat (Somers & Gibson 1993; Bruner 1991; Baker 2006a), s'examinen les traduccions publicades en un bloc, AZIZ8178, per explorar les intervencions paratextuals que emmarquen les narratives traduïdes. Els resultats assenyalen una selecció deliberada d'articles per a la traducció que s'ajusta a les circumstàncies canviants a què s'enfronta ISIS sobre el terreny. A més, es demostra que la versió àrab de Dabiq d'AZIZ8178 construeix una narrativa centrada en la identitat, que posa èmfasi en els conflictes interns i les divisions dins de les comunitats àrabs contemporànies. Es postula que els paratextos d'AZIZ8178 apropen les doctrines radicals d'ISIS al teixit sociopolític de destinació, incitant potencialment el fanatisme entre el públic arabòfon al qual van dirigits. La visibilitat i l'autonomia del traductor es fan evidents en els elements paratextuals de signatures i notes a peu de pàgina, que posen de manifest la seua postura gihadista.
