Abstract

The society has a high social value of the teachers, but teachers do not perceive this image in the same way. This fact has been verified in numerous researches. Now, we do it in this work through the Barometer February 2013 by Center for Sociological Research. Why this dissociation on the social value of the teaching profession. This paper argues that society and teachers do not refer to the same things about the social status of the teaching profession and, when they do, they do not consider it in the same way.

The positive assessment that is made of the teaching profession is not generalized to issues such as social prestige, salary, vocation, autonomy, training, motivation, functions or authority. On the other hand, teachers give a higher value to the teaching profession to the other given by society and would recommend it to friends to a greater degree that society does.
