About the Journal

Focus and Scope

Research in Education and Learning Innovation Archives (e-ISSN: 2659-9031) is an international scientific online journal that publishes innovative research on education and learning. With a clear focus on higher education and lifelong/continuous learning, the journal also welcomes research from other relevant educational areas.


The acronym REALIA refers to real objects that are used in the classroom as educational resources.


This emphasis on teaching practice can be interpreted as a continuous process where everyone involved is welcome:


  


Research articles, reviews of literature and position articles about the uses of technology in teaching and learning are accepted, while the main areas of specialisation align with the latter. Specifically:



  • Higher Education

  • University teacher training (pre-service and continuous)

  • Other education levels

  • Professionals interested in the teaching and learning processes in Higher Education

  • Innovative educational practices

  • Technologies for learning

  • Teaching methodologies

  • Assessment of teaching and learning practices

Research in Education and Learning Innovation Archives (REALIA) was formerly known as @tic revista d’innovació educativa (ISSN: 1989-3477) until issue 21 (Autumn 2018). Research in Education and Learning Innovation Archives (REALIA) is an open-access scientific journal published by the Staff Development and Educational Innovation Service (SFPIE) of the Universitat de València. REALIA accepts manuscripts in English, Spanish and Catalan, and it is published biannually. Published manuscripts include:



  1. Original research

  2. Reports, studies and proposals

  3. Position papers

  4. Conclusiveliterature reviews and meta-analyses


If the proposal is an original piece of research, the manuscript must preferably conform to the following structure:



  1. Introduction and review of the literature

  2. Materials and methods

  3. Analysis and results

  4. Discussion and conclusions

  5. Bibliographical references

  6. Sponsor(s): The Council of Science Editors advises authors to cite the funding source for their research. For the previous scientific review of the manuscript, source(s) must be anonymised using XXXX so that authors and research groups cannot be identified.

Our editorial policy requires that authors employ inclusive language for scientific articles intended for publication in our journal. To enable the identification of gender differences, we also require authors to indicate whether gender was taken into account when collecting source data for their study.


Research in Education and Learning Innovation Archives celebrates diversity and affirms its unwavering commitment to equality and respect for all. Our published articles shall therefore avoid any claims to superiority based on gender, class, culture, ethnic origin, or any other difference between people. All authors must therefore ensure their language is free of bias, avoid the use of stereotypes, and commit to using inclusive language at all times.


 

Peer Review Process

In Research in Education and Learning Innovation Archives all manuscripts are subjected to a double-blind peer-reviewed process.


Review periods



  1. Notification to the author(s): Author(s) will receive from the journal a notification of correct submission of their proposal.

  2. Peer review process by a member of the Editorial Board: All contributions will be initially assessed by the Editorial Board for verification of the minimum requirements: topic(s) fall within the scope of the journal, anonymity is ensured, manuscript meets formal requirements, citation guidelines are correctly followed, etc.). Manuscripts failing to meet these minimum requirements will be rejected. Decisions will reach authors within 1 and 3 months.

  3. Double-blind process: All manuscripts deemed suitable will be then sent to a minimum of two independent expert reviewers to assess their scientific quality. 


The Editorial Board is responsible for the final decision regarding acceptance or rejection.


List of referees 


Research in Education and Learning Innovation Archives has an extensive database of national and international review experts. The allocation of manuscripts to referees is made on the basis of the referees’ expertise on the topic(s) of manuscripts.


Author(s) can reject referees during the process of submission of manuscripts. They must do so in the section Comments to the Editor. Likewise, they can recommend referees for their manuscripts on the same section.


The lists of experts who have anonymously contributed to the review of manuscripts are published each year. These experts are part of REALIA’s Review Committee for that year.


Should you wish to become part of the Review Committee, you can sign up on our editing platform as Reviewer, indicating areas of expertise in the spaces provided.


Guidelines for reviewers



  • Referees for Research in Education and Learning Innovation Archives shall not accept the review of a manuscript in they have a conflict of interest or when the requisite of double-blind review has not been observed.

  • After the publication of each issue, referees will be sent a certificate for their contribution to the quality of this process. Research in Education and Learning Innovation Archives will favour the inclusion of referees in systems that foster the visibility of their work, like PUBLONS.

Publication Frequency

This journal publishes two issues each year in January and July (around 15thand 25th for each month), which are the numbers for Spring (January-Juny) and Autumn (July-December).

Open Access Policy

Research in Education and Learning Innovation Archives (REALIA) provides immediate open access to all its contents, which are protected by a Creative Commons License: Attribution-NoDerivatives 4.0 International (CC BY-ND 4.0) 

Ethical Statement

The publication of scientific articles involves several agents, including the publishers, the Chief Editor(s), the referees and the authors, from which ethical conduct is expected. Research in Education and Learning Innovation Archives supports and upholds the Principles of Transparency and Best Practice in Scholarly Publishing by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) Best Practice Guidelines.


For plagiarism detection, Research in Education and Learning Innovation Archives uses URKUND in the review process. If plagiarism is detected in a manuscript, REALIA will send author(s) the report issued by the anti-plagiarism tool for author(s) to provide an answer before the Editorial Board rejects the manuscript.

Roles and responsibilities of the Committees

Scientific Committee


Members are internationally-renowned experts who advise and assist REALIA’s Editorial Team in matters regarding visibility of the publication, internationalisation and advising. They are committed to:



  1. Advising the editorial team on the production of a scientific journal of international quality.

  2. Inviting nationally and internationally renowned scholars to publish their works in Research in Education and Learning Innovation Archives.

  3. Promoting the dissemination of the journal in national and international academic forums.

  4. Providing support and advice.

  5. Spreading the texts published in Research in Education and Learning Innovation Archives  and calls for papers in academic forums and social media.


Editorial Board


Members are renowned experts who give direct support and advice to REALIA’s Editorial Team whenever it is required and whenever possible. They are committed to:



  1. Taking part as thematic editors of the journal.

  2. Giving their opinion about the proposed Call for Papers.

  3. Recommending referees for submitted manuscripts in those fields of knowledge or topics of their expertise.

  4. Guaranteeing the continuous quality improvement of the journal.

  5. Assisting in the resolution of plagiarism cases, or resolving critical issues.

  6. Promoting the dissemination of the journal in national and international academic forums.

  7. Spreading the texts published in Research in Education and Learning Innovation Archives and calls for papers in academic forums and social media.

  8. Contributing to the yearly work of journal review as regards its quality and impact.

Journal History

Research in Education and Learning Innovation Archives (eISSN: 2659-9031) is the new name of the former @tic revista d'educació educativa (ISSN: 1989-3477).


In 2019, with the publication of Issue 22 (Spring 2019), this open-access scientific journal changed its name to Research in Education and Learning Innovation Archives in order to facilitate its internationalisation and indexing in international databases.


The reasons for this change were:



  1. The inherent difficulty to include the “@” of the former name in databases.

  2. The loss of timeliness of the acronym ICT in specialized literature.

  3. Research in Education and Learning Innovation Archives  is better aligned with the focus and scope of the journal appropriately and unambiguously.


Research in Education and Learning Innovation Archives  Editors-in-Chief are Professor Alejandro Armelini (University of Portsmouth) and Professor Ferran Suay (Universitat de València).
