Resum

Aquesta és la introducció del número especial sobre Polítiques lingüístiques i justícia social. L'article introductori utilitza el joc de l'ultimàtum com el vidre des del qual observar l'assignació de recursos i les polítiques lingüístiques. L’article sosté que les comunitats lingüístiques dominants comencen el joc en una posició avantatjosa que els permet decidir l’oferta que es presentarà a les comunitats lingüístiques no dominants. Aquest enfocament permet explorar les normes d'equitat en comunitats tradicionalment o emergentment multilingües, recorrent als estudis de traducció i interpretació. Per acabar, la introducció explora de quines maneres els articles d'aquest número especial estan en posició de contribuir a la justícia social. S'argumenta que aconsegueixen aquest objectiu articulant la manera com els estudis de traducció i interpretació poden contribuir a l'elaboració de lleis, a la formulació de polítiques i a la pràctica, cosa que té conseqüències per als qui es dediquen a la traducció i la interpretació, com també per als qui treballen en situacions que requereixen mediació i les persones que fan servir els serveis públics.
