Women’s challenges and gender inequality implications in the UK Home Office’s streamlined asylum process

Resum
Aquest article conceptual examina els reptes a què s'enfronten les dones que sol·liciten asil al Regne Unit, centrant-se en les repercussions del procés d'asil simplificat del Ministeri de l'Interior britànic. Malgrat que les directrius oficials esmenten les qüestions de gènere, el sistema es mostra hostil i inadequat a l'hora d'acarar els obstacles singulars a què s'enfronten les dones. A través d'un marc teòric posthumà centrat en les pràctiques, l'article examina les inquietuds en matèria de gènere que ha suscitat recentment que el Ministeri de l'Interior britànic recòrrega, per al cas de determinades nacionalitats, a qüestionaris, traducció automàtica i assistència lingüística informal en lloc d'entrevistes d'asil interpretades. L'article també posa en relleu les implicacions de la tecnologització i la burocratització de l'accés lingüístic. S'hi argumenta que el procés simplificat de sol·licitud d'asil no només reforça la posició marginada de les dones, sinó que també en redueix recursos crucials com la interpretació, la qual cosa reforça, alhora, les asimetries de poder de gènere entre les persones sol·licitants d'asil i el sistema judicial. L'article sosté que aquest enfocament transfereix a les dones la càrrega de la comprensió lingüística, cosa que redunda en un clima d'exclusió sociomaterial que retalla els drets de les sol·licitants d'asil a ser escoltades adequadament.
