Abstract

Translation is an intercultural linguistic phenomenon, which is normally bound to a socio-historical context and, in many cases, is highly charged from an ideological point of view even when the product is a creatively oriented translation. This is the case of The Internationale, a song that has had worldwide political repercussions thanks to its diffusion through the translation of the original French version to many languages.

In this study, we make a transversal and vertical analysis of the song The Inernationale from the point of view of translation theory and discourse analysis. On the one hand we seek to study the translation of the song from the French original to the English German, Spanish and Catalan versions. On the other hand, we propose a comparative analysis of the different versions in each language and an analysis the changes that the song has undergone in different periods.
