Abstract

What is the canon used in the first cycle of primary education? What are the selection criteria? Are those folktales starring women the most read? These questions have motivated the research we are presenting which has been carried out in a public school in Valencia. After verifying that the tales of the list do not connect with the curricular gender values, we have sought for other tales from the Catalan folklore which seem to have more attractive and wise features. The creation of a working group at school has produced, on the one hand, the adaptation of these stories for children; and, on the other hand, it hascreated an exhibition of stories about women and traditional tales written by the students.
