Abstract

Ilarie Voronca was born in Rumania. In 1933, he settled in Paris, where he committed suicide in 1946 due to several complex reasons: personal problems, the consequences of the Occupation period and the difficult status of the Jewish people of foreign origin, and above all, his probable feeling of exile.

He wrote in both languages, and having moved from avant-gardism in Rumania to an intense lyricism in France, he suffered from a duality that was not only that of the man but also of the writer. His complete works, in Rumanian and in French, in poetry and in narrative, are currently being rediscovered, and being granted the honours that they deserve.
