In this book Danube, Claudio Magris describes the feelings of millions of people who live in Mitteleurope and whose lives have been marked by a river, the Danube. They have always had to live on the border. As a result, their identity has suffered the problems of history.
For this search he uses literary references, writers who also took the river as a reflection point. By the end, concepts as identity and nationalism are questioned from a point of view that is as changing and fragile as the line of the border itself.
