Abstract

The present monograph gathers a group of literary studies that centers exclusively around the literary genre of poetry, and that tries to approach some relations that can be established between poetry and silence. The proposal of this monograph, poetry and silence, involves the foundations of poetry, and it transcends any time or space restrictions. From the East to the West, from Classic to 21st century literature, through all Eastern and Western literary productions, silence has always been inextricably linked to 'voice' and to peotry writing. This relationship allows us not only to explore the configuration of a thematic universe, but also to influence on the projection or repercussion of social and historical conditions and of aesthetic norms: on the imposition of silence or on the silenced voices. And even more, it returns toits origins, to the expression, to its limits. From this link, it comes not only what G. Steiner called the paradox of silence (i.e. silence as the culmination of the poetic action) but also the treatment of a series of aspects that constitute "the poetics of silence".
