Abstract

Child language acquisition is a complex process that evolves from an initially meaning-centred grammar towards the consolidation of formal meta-communicative and grammatical skills. This development requires an approach that recognises its peculiar nature and uses units to identify and analyse patterns of change. Construction grammar provides adequate theoretical-descriptive tools to examine children’s grammars by systematising constructions that are articulated through the operation of cognitive and linguistic processes. These processes materialise the evolution of child language.
