Expectations regarding interpreters in Brazil in the light of pandemic-enforced technological change: A pilot study

Resumen
Este artículo explora las expectativas que, desde distintos perfiles, se hacen valer en el sistema jurídico brasileño respecto de la interpretación, y cómo pueden haber cambiado con el paso a la interpretación a distancia durante la pandemia. En este artículo, analizamos las expectativas que recaen sobre las y los intérpretes y cómo se relacionan con el avance de la interpretación a distancia. Para ello, el artículo parte de la creciente concienciación sobre la necesidad de replantearse los métodos utilizados para comprender las expectativas respecto de la interpretación. El estudio se basa en cuestionarios realizados con miembros de la judicatura, la fiscalía y la abogacía, así como con intérpretes. Los cuestionarios examinan sus reacciones ante una serie de viñetas adaptadas a partir de situaciones reales y plantea preguntas específicas, tras lo cual se comparan las respuestas recogidas con ambos métodos. El estudio pone de manifiesto que estas tecnologías han exacerbado las tensiones entre las necesidades percibidas por las y los intérpretes y las demandas percibidas por otros agentes que participan en el proceso judicial. Este artículo sostiene que las expectativas de las y los intérpretes dependen del concepto de presencia lingüística, una noción que intérpretes y juristas entienden de maneras distintas. Esta discrepancia es especialmente pertinente habida cuenta del avance de la interpretación a distancia.
