The incidence of empathy when interpreting in the field for vulnerable populations in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict

El objetivo de este artículo es describir el impacto de la empatía en intérpretes que trabajan sobre el terreno con personas vulnerables en el contexto del conflicto palestino-israelí. Los datos, de carácter cualitativo, se recabaron en 2018 mediante entrevistas con intérpretes profesionales que trabajaban sobre el terreno para organizaciones internacionales (tanto autónomas o autónomos como permanentes) y se han plasmado en dos narrativas paradigmáticas (una para cada perfil profesional) como medio para preservar el anonimato de las personas participantes. Estas narrativas muestran un impacto significativo de la empatía en determinadas situaciones comunicativas y su consideración como un impedimento a la vez que como una emoción útil para la tarea en cuestión. El artículo sugiere que estas percepciones conflictivas pueden abordarse empoderando con formación psicológica a las y los intérpretes para que puedan conciliar su tarea con su propio posicionamiento.
