Abstract

The main goal of this article is to shed light on how to transfer Construction Grammar notions and principles to grammar teaching in secondary education. Considering the deficits that grammar instruction has inherited, we compare the requirements of pedagogical grammar to the main assumptions of Construction Grammar. This approach claims for the existence of constructions, conventional pairings of form and meaning, in all levels of language, so it contributes to a fully meaningful view of grammar. As a sample of the findings on the didactic compatibility, we propose a typology of constructions-based syntax activities, aimed at reaching systematic knowledge on the form and meaning of syntactic structures with a varying degree of abstractness.
