In 1950, Louis Jouvet’s company staged Molière’s L’école des femmes and Knock, by Jules Romains, as part of the Galas Karsenty season in the Teatre Romea. Jouvet’s first and last appearance in Barcelona was very well received by critics and an exclusive audience, who were very appreciative of the company’s professional performance. The visit underlined the high regard in which French theatre was held in Catalonia at a time when contemporary German and English theatre productions were almost unknown by local theatre professionals.
